Who's the "Food Lady"?

That'd be me - Emma! I have a lot of jobs around here, but the animals know me best as Food Lady. I bring them meals and I bribe them with snacks to love me, since they all naturally seem to love my husband more than me.

I've had a love for animals my entire life. I remember making a powerpoint and trifold poster to convince my dad to let me get Zebra finches when I was 7 or 8 (we did not get Zebra finches), being SO excited to help Dad rescue the giant snapping turtle who laid eggs in our front yard, and wheeling her back to the swamp in a garden cart so she wouldn't get run over by a car. When I was younger, I cycled through hobbies pretty quickly, so when I asked my parents if I could take riding lessons, I think they may have thought it would be another quick phase and I'd move onto the next thing. Unfortunately for all of our wallets, that wasn't the case.

As the years went by, I wanted to have more barn time, so I stayed late, worked a school night or two each week, and started going to horse shows with my trainer, Olana. At one point I had a rotating list of six or eight horses to ride every day after school, and I am forever grateful for my barn and riding time.

When I met my husband, I said I wanted a big farm in Virginia, and he said "alrighty!" - we didn't quite get there, but our eight acres in Maryland is definitely our little slice of heaven. I like to bake (though I'll admit I don't like to actually eat a lot of what I find fun to make) and make things with my hands (I'm proud to say this Christmas was almost entirely handmade gifts!). This blog is meant to be a snapshot of my life, and hopefully others find it enjoyable, or helpful, or entertaining.
